Ladakh: The Land of Passes

The sights and sounds of Leh & Ladakh are like no place else in the world. The roads are barren and surrounded by breathtaking mountain ranges capped with snow. They seem to be unending as you travel from one place to another and one is left wishing for this to never end. From momo stops to trying out the local cuisine that has a Tibetan influence, this trip promises to be ride of a life time for travellers who feel at home amidst mountains and first timers are sure to be awed by the purity of the landscapes here. Known amongst many as the land of passes, this is also one of the coldest deserts in the world bound by the world’s highest mountain ranges – Himalayas and Karakoram.

Day 1: Leh

Arrival Leh by flight, you will meet our representative at airport and transfer to Hotel. Enjoy a traditional welcome at the hotel with Khataks and welcome tea and coffee. Freshen up and take rest for the remaining day to get acclimatized to the high altitude of 3524 Meters (11,500 ft). Later in the evening visit Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa & the Central Asian Museum. Dinner and Overnight will be at the hotel.


DAY 2: Leh - Nurla (79 Km)

After an early breakfast at the hotel we drive towards Nurla which is situated on the bank of Indus

River on the Srinagar-Leh Highway (NH1). On the way we visit Sangam (confluence of 2 rivers, Indus and zanskar) Alchi Monastery, founded in 11th century is largest and most famous and of all the temples built by great translator Richen Zangpo. Later we continue towards Nurla, Reach Nurla by evening

.Dinner & overnight stay at Hotel.


Day 3: Nurla – Lamayuru (55 Km) - Leh (127 Km)

After early breakfast drive for Lamayuru which is one of the oldest monasteries of Ladakh and it is located 127 Km from Leh. The monastery was founded in 10th Century but later great translator Rinchen Zangpo built many temples and stupas. The monastery is famous for its rich wall paintings, collection of Thankas, Murals, scriptures and Statues of different forms of Bhuddha and other Buddhist Deities. Beside monastery Lamayuru also attracts tourist for its Landscape quite similar to the Lunar Terrain Later drive back to Leh from the same route reach Leh by evening and check in at Hotel. Dinner will be at local ladakhi house in Stok Village and overnight at Hotel.


Day 4: Leh - Nubra (125 Km)

After early breakfast drive for Nubra Valley as early as possible, which is 125 km from Leh enroute through the world highest accessible road Khardong La (18,379 ft). Reach Diskit (headquarters of Nubra valley) by noon and check in at the hotel/camp and have hot lunch. Evening visit Sand dunes in Hunder Village 7 km from Diskit Village and take a ride of Double Humped Bactrian Camels (on your own account). Dinner and overnight at hotel/camp.


Day 5: Nubra – Leh

After breakfast visit Diskit Monastery. Later drive back to Leh from the same route crossing Khardong La Pass reach back by the afternoon, check in at hotel and have hot lunch in hotel. Evening is free for leisure, you can explore and explore the local market and try local cuisine for dinner. Dinner will be on your own account.


Day 6: Leh – Pangong – Leh (149 Km)

After early breakfast drive for Pangong Lake which is 149 Km from Leh enroute through Changla Pass which is third highest mountain motorable pass in the world. The Lake is situated at the height of 4350 meters (14270 ft) in the Changthang region of Leh district. The lake is hardly six to seven kilometer at its widest point and over 130km long; it is bisected by the international border between India and China. later we drive back to Leh from the same route. Dinner and overnight will be at the hotel.


Day-7: Rafting (Skorpochey – Nimoo)

After Breakfast we transfer to Sangam for white water rafting from Skorpochey to Nimoo 25km stretch on Zanskar River. Lunch at the banks of river. Evening at leisure to do last minute shopping at the bazaar.


Day 8: DEPARTURE

After early breakfast transfer to Kushok Bakula Leh airport for the return flight.
